I want a hippopotamus for Christmas.

IMG_0566So many titles would fit today’s post.  Seems the one with the catchiest tune won out in this case, but any number of contenders were possible.

Like “Grandma’s got a brand new bag.”  Grandma Moses, that is, who I just discovered for myself at the tail end of last year’s festivities.  Love her.

I also considered calling this post “Court the spawn of satan to spiff up that dated picture frame.”  Did you know that some folks consider glitter to be the “spawn of satan”?  Huh.  Glitter hasn’t done me wrong yet, though I’m now more wary and appreciate the heads-up.  She does turn that 1970′s style heather-flecked frame into something more festive!

Also viable was the title “Pinterest made me do it: bottle brush trees.”

All of this is to say that this year’s newest holiday decor decking the walls of Five Green Acres was brought to you by antique stores near and far.  A ceramic hippo planter, Grandma Moses print and printed fabric, which I casually whipped up into a pillow, a smattering of white reindeer frolicking among the bottle brush forest, and two sets of stockings – handknit (and darned!) as well as striped, are among the treasures gleaned recently.  What fun it is to spruce up the decor every now and then.

++ Unrelated but awesome:  Tattler Reusable canning lids are 50% off today only.  I scored a bunch and free shipping too!  Use coupon code “madness” during checkout.  You’re welcome.

Let me guess….you were eating doritoes and cheetoes while frolicking with the devil! :-) Glittering over the ‘heather-flecked’ frame must have given you one heckuva smile!

It looks so homey and cozy! I love the idea of the shelf in place of a mantel – we have been stuck with the shelf above the TV in the entertainment center, but the husband is just so picky about seeing the TV… ;)
